Winter in the Nickel Capital: Your Guide to Sudbury’s Best Outdoor Skating

There is nothing quite like winter in Sudbury. When the temperature drops, our city transforms into a playground of ice and snow. But to truly enjoy the best skating paths in the North, you need more than just a warm jacket you need a sharp edge, and properly fitted skate.

At Skater’s Edge Source For Sports, we live for this season. Whether you are a speed skater, a hockey player, or someone who just loves a leisurely glide through the trees, here are the three must-visit spots in Sudbury right now:

1. The Ramsey Lake Skate Path

A true local staple, this 1.5km path offers a unique way to see the city. Stretching from Science North to the Ramsey Lake Canoe Club, it’s the perfect spot for a weekend outing with the family or a scenic workout.

2. Nina’s Way at Kivi Park

If you want a "fairytale" winter experience, head over to Kivi Park. Nina’s Way is a 1.3km path that winds through the lush forest. It’s lit up at night, making it one of the most atmospheric places to skate in Ontario. Please note, as Nina’s Way is an outside trail that follows natural bumps and grades creating a more challenging experience. Please use the trail with caution.

3. Queen’s Athletic Oval

For those who prefer a traditional skating experience, the Oval is the place to be. With its wide-open lanes and smooth surface, it is ideal for those looking to practice their stride or get some fast laps in under the winter sun.
